The Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) Library has continued to expand its resources in order to cater to the growing population of students. At the main campus, library resources have continued to be expanded and enhanced. The library, which can accommodate 600 users, is equipped with computers and wireless access points for Internet access. The library has a collection of over 30,000 textbooks and 180,427 e-books. It also subscribes to 21 electronic databases which provide students with access to millions of journals. The subscription is done through the Kenya Library and Information Ser- vices Consortium.
Access to these resources is done through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) which facilitates the discovery of books by allowing for online search of the books. Publications by faculty and staff at MUT are centrally curated in the institutional repository. Currently, the repository contains 5,863 different digital resources. This move is geared towards facilitating research collaboration and increasing the visibility and citation of research articles.
The Library provides services for both online and offline users. Its off-campus access is a popular product among students and staff. In a recent survey, it was established that the most popular databases with users were IEE which had 785 downloads followed by Emerald with 398 downloads.
In 2022, MUT established a campus library at Mariira. The library is equipped with books on Agriculture and related subjects offered on the new campus. Other information services enjoyed at the main campus library will also be provided at Mariira Campus.
The Library is committed to supporting the academic pursuits at the University. It is poised to become an academic hub which is the focal point for students and faculty.
